Kelvin Lib Dems slam green space threat3.30.41pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 17th Oct 2006
Katy Gordon, the Liberal Democrat candidate for Glasgow Kelvin has spoken out against the reduction of green spaces in the Glasgow Kelvin constituency. Her call to protect green spaces was made at the Liberal Democrat Autumn conference in Perth at the weekend, during the pre manifesto debate. Katy said: "The moves to build on Dowanhill Tennis Club are a prime example of the dangers to green spaces in the current regulatory framework. We must do all we can to protect these spaces for the future. "I support the Liberal Democrat pre manifesto proposal for a legislative presumption against the sale of urban green space and playing fields for development. It will stop the very real threat from local developers. " Katy also made the plea for sports clubs to be recognised as small businesses in practical terms acknowledging that volunteers for committees are often unprepared for the demanding nature of running a club. Katy said: "Models of good practise in club management must be made available to clubs and sports facilities. Training should be offered for those who are starting out in club management, and clubs should be encouraged to use business advice services for guidance" notes: Katy was the candidate for Glasgow South West in the Westminster 05 elections. Katy is a member of the Greater Glasgow Liberal Democrats Committee, Scottish Conference Committee, Parliamentary Candidates Association Committee and an active member of Scottish Women Liberal Democrats Committee. Katy works for Careers Scotland and manages a national European funded project offering career counselling to people facing redundancy. Katy is a graduate of Aberdeen University, and Napier university where she gained a postgraduate qualification in Careers Guidance. She has lived in Glasgow for the past 13 years. Related Link:
