Glasgow Liberal Democrats welcome Chris Huhne MP to annual dinner12.00.00am GMT Mon 10th Mar 2008
Chris Huhne MP, Liberal Democrat Home Affairs Spokesperson, and former candidate for leadership of the Liberal Democrats, is to deliver the keynote speech at the Greater Glasgow Liberal Democrat Dinner in the King's Park Hotel, this Thursday 13th March. Greater Glasgow Liberal Democrats are celebrating significant electoral success over the last year, with an increase in Local Government Councillor numbers, and most recently an 8% increase in share of the vote at the Cambuslang East by election last week. The second speaker is Baillie Margot Clark, now Glasgow City Councillor for Linn Ward, who won the King's Park by election from Labour almost exactly two years ago. Glasgow Liberal Democrat MSP Robert Brown said: "I am delighted that the Regional Party's well established Annual Dinner is returning to Rutherglen this year and we are really looking forward to Chris Huhne's speech. "Chris Huhne has a distinguished background as an economist and as a highly-rated journalist, and has served in both the European Parliament and now the House of Commons. "He made a huge contribution to environmental campaigning in his previous role as Liberal Democrat environment spokesperson, and is now settling in to his new role in the key Home Affairs portfolio. "Chris was an economic and financial journalist for 19 years and a City economist for 5 years before his election as an MEP in 1999 and MP for Eastleigh in 2005."
